Best Time to Visit Ubud: What to Expect in Every Season
A friendly guide to Ubud’s dry and green seasons, and the experiences each one brings, to help you plan the holiday you have in mind.
Planning a trip to Bali often starts with one simple question: when should we go? The answer depends less on the calendar and more on the kind of holiday you are hoping for. Some travelers love clear mornings for exploring, while others look forward to lush green scenery and slow, peaceful afternoons.
The best time to visit Ubud is the season that matches the way you like to travel. Below, you will find what each season is like, what you can enjoy during your stay, and a few helpful tips to help you plan ahead.
What the Weather in Ubud Is Like All Year
Ubud sits inland and at a slightly higher elevation than the coast, so it tends to feel a little cooler and greener than Bali’s beach areas. Daytime temperatures typically range from approximately 27°C to 30°C throughout the year, while nighttime temperatures are around 20°C to 24°C.
In other words, the clothes you pack for July will be much the same as those you pack for January.
The Dry Season in Ubud: April to October
During the dry season, mornings are usually clear, the light is ideal for photographs, and garden paths tend to stay dry throughout the day. July and August are also among the coolest months of the year, making walking, cycling, and exploring the villages especially pleasant.
This is a popular time to travel, particularly during July, August, and school holidays. If your dates fall within these periods, we recommend booking as early as you can to have the widest choice of rooms and villas.
This season may suit you if you are planning to spend plenty of time outdoors, from rice field walks and village visits to long afternoons by the pool.
The Green Season in Ubud: November to March
The green season is when Ubud’s landscape is at its greenest. The rice terraces are lush and full, the gardens are filled with tropical plants, and the air feels fresh after the rain. Showers in
Ubud often arrive in short, heavy bursts before clearing, so many mornings may still be suitable for exploring.
It is also a peaceful time to visit, with a slower rhythm across Ubud. For guests who wish to rest, read a good book, enjoy long meals, and be looked after, the sound of rain over a tropical garden can become part of the charm.
At the resort, there are plenty of ways to enjoy these months. You might join one of our cultural activities, such as making jamu or Canang Sari offerings, relax with a treatment at Tejas Spa at The Sun of Granary, or enjoy a slow meal overlooking the rice fields at Kunang-Kunang Restaurant.
This season may suit you if you are looking for a quiet escape, surrounded by greenery, with time to slow down and recharge.
Nyepi: One Date to Plan Around
Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence and the start of the Saka New Year, usually falls in March. For twenty-four hours, the whole island pauses. The airport closes, roads are empty, businesses remain closed, lights are kept low, and people remain where they are.
For many visitors, Nyepi becomes one of the most memorable parts of their trip, especially when they are staying somewhere they are happy to spend the whole day. On the evening before, villages hold Ogoh-Ogoh parades featuring large handmade figures carried through the streets.
Because the island closes for the day, we recommend checking the Nyepi date for your year of travel before booking your flights. If your stay includes Nyepi, please let us know, so we can help you prepare.
